About the event

By 1860, almost one in four non-slave residents of Savannah was Irish-born—many from County Wexford. Why Wexford, and what became of these immigrants?
In this lecture with visuals, Dr. Howard Keeley, of Georgia Southern University, explores
their story and lasting impact on Savannah.
Dr. Keeley is a recipient of the Presidential Distinguished Service Award from the President of Ireland.
Sponsored by the History Department at Belmont Abbey College, Charlotte Irish Connection, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
